The CAJ's annual conference returns to Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communications for the first time in many years! This year's event will be held from June 12-13, 2026.

The conference committee is working hard to bring together an exceptional line-up of keynotes and speakers, with workshops to further your skills and panels to stimulate and energize your career. Full details of speakers and sessions will be posted online as they become available. Check back on our conference page often for updates.

The full line-up of events is as follows:

--Canadian Journalism Forum for Violence and Trauma presents their Mindset Awards at a special luncheon

Early-bird pricing runs until midnight, May 14 2026.

Special member-only pricing is available for students, newsroom groups (5 or more), and awards finalists - please inquire to conference@caj.ca for more information about these special prices that do not appear below.

 

Lunch options:

Given the time of year for CAJ26, many/most of the food facilities at the university will be closed. We are therefore arranging for lunch options that can be purchased below. If the lunch options below are not of interest, delegates are welcome to bring their own lunch on-site. Regardless of your food option, there are many areas in and around the School of Journalism and Communications building to sit, visit with fellow delegates, and enjoy their food of choice. Please note, going offsite for lunch may prove challenging with the schedule and therefore we recommend that delegates plan their lunch in advance.

 

Lunch options must be purchased by May 27 and will not be available for purchase on site.

 

Hotel booking:

With CAJ26 taking place at Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communications, and not in a hotel setting, the CAJ has secured a room block for its delegates at ARC the Hotel at 140 Slater St. Information for this is available below. Hotel bookings through the CAJ must be made by May 15.

CAJ Awards Banquet and Gala

A Buffet Dinner will be served in advance of the CAJ Awards ceremony. The banquet will take place in the Atrium of Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communications building. Check-in begins at 5:30 pm in the reception area, where you will be directed to the President's reception. Doors for the dinner open at 6:00 pm. The awards ceremony will begin around 7:30 pm.

 

Food service will have labels displayed to insure that those with dietary restrictions can do their best to avoid offending foods.

Friday Mindset Awards Luncheon Event

Join the Canadian Journalism Forum on Friday, June 12, 12:00 – 2:00 pm, for a luncheon to celebrate the winners of the 2025 Mindset Awards for Mental Health Reporting.

 

Further details on the event are available on the Mindset Awards website.

 

Luncheon will be held in the Resources Centre of Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communications building at 12:00 pm

 

This luncheon will be buffet-style and will include vegetarian and vegan options within.

The group rate of $215 plus taxes per night (based on double occupancy) will be available for the nights of June 11, 12, and 13. Based on availability, this room rate may also be available 3 days pre and post event dates. All room rates are subject to HST (13%) and MAT (6%).

 

All room bookings will be made for standard King rooms.

 

Cut-off date for room booking through the CAJ is May 14, 2026. Any reservation requests after that date will need to be made with the hotel directly.

 

Any cancellations or "no show" within 48 hours of the arrival date will be charged one-night room and tax, as this is charged to the CAJ by the hotel.
